Our Hosts

Mark and Cherilyn Orr have lived in Kampala, Uganda for almost 5 consecutive years. Mark, having grown up in Brazil as part of a global worker family; Cherilyn having worked with thousands of inner city kids all over Canada; and the two of them having lived in Greece for 3 years, aiding in the refugee crisis; Mark and Cherilyn are no veterans in the global worker field. They have 3 biological children, and have adopted 4 others, though there could be triple that amount of children in their house at any given time.

Mark, is founder and catalyst of Leadership 555, a project to birth systemic change throughout Africa by catalyzing leaders. It combines new approaches to leadership training, a national connecting framework, and an emphasis on sustainable, local resources. Mark is currently finishing his work in Uganda, with at least three leaders, who will become change agents in various areas of the national culture.

Cherilyn, is founder and author of the Stoplight Approach, a project which engenders national change in the Uganda education system. It is an approach to teaching that optimizes learning, decreases behavioural issues, and creates safe school environments; by providing teachers with positive methods to discipline and teach students of all ages. Cherilyn is currently finishing her work in Uganda, with at least 5 local schools already implementing this approach, and national team developing, who will continue training teachers across the country.
